Welcome to a rarely seen side of the Remarkables.
These divers are heading to Lake Alta’s frozen surface, high up the mountain last Saturday. They’re among a 23-strong group taking part in the Cromwell Underwater Club’s annual ice dive.
Divers can brave the chilly waters for about 15 minutes before exiting through the hole cut out of metre-thick ice.
Organiser Steve Bell says the view underwater is stunning – “It’s like looking up at the moon.”
