Kiwi ingenuity was at its best during the Arrowtown Preschool Trolley Derby last weekend.
Alan Sutton might not have blitzed the field but he won over the crowd with his trolley made completely from recycled materials.
Sutton’s racer was among 17 vehicles that included Roger Grant’s inspired entry Road Runner.
It completely encased Grant, requiring him to lie flat on his tummy facing head first.
Grant led the race in his impressive-looking entry but spun out a mere two metres from the finish, allowing Jason “James Bond” Steed to zip past for Colliers HP Racing and take victory.
Event organiser Julie Hughes says more than $5500 was raised to go towards a much-needed new preschool centre.
Division 1: 1st Colliers HP Racer; 2nd Road Runner; 3rd Batmobile
