Arrowtown musician Ritchie Petersen has produced a rugby supporters’ song to raise money for local rugby clubs and schools.
The singer-songwriter was inspired to create a song for rugby fans after watching the Highlanders play in Dunedin about two years ago.
“You see English football team fans singing to official songs, and I just thought it would be great for rugby fans to have their own unique song to get excited to sing.”
The song is available on CD, at a cost of $5, and all proceeds will go to rugby clubs and schools in South-land and Otago to boost grassroots rugby programmes.
Petersen felt compelled to pick up his guitar and give back to “New Zealand’s national sport”.
“In recent years, most grassroots clubs have been financially curtailed, and I thought it was a good chance to give them some profits.”
