Queenstown Resort College’s roll is expanding – and this year includes two Olympians.
Local free skier Mitchey Greig and biathlon competitor Sarah Murphy are among the biggest intake yet for the College.
Sixty-eight students started at the college last week, compared to 39 in April 09.
Hospitality management numbers more than doubled to 45 from 22 students last year.
Adventure tourism student numbers climbed from 17 in 2009 to 23 this year.
Adventure tourism management students will share the classroom with Queenstowner Greig and locally-based Murphy, who both want to run their own tourism businesses.
“Attending QRC means I can work towards that while also training to compete in the Sochi 2014 Olympics in Russia,” Greig says.
Queenstown Resort College chief executive Charlie Phillips says: “Tourism is the fastest-growing industry in the world and for athletes like Mitchey and Sarah, this gives them the opportunity to capitalise on their achievements.”
