Queenstown newlyweds Catherine and Shane Blyth exchange loving gazes as they celebrate becoming the first couple in New Zealand to tie the knot in 2009.
They were pronounced man and wife at 12.01am on January 1 at a rented Belfast Terrace villa overlooking the resort.
The couple’s first kiss was even timed to coincide with the start of the fireworks display in Queenstown Bay.
“We picked the date because we first met on New Year’s Eve eight years ago and wanted to get married on our anniversary,” says Shane. “It was a fantastic occasion for everyone.”
On the night, the couple staged their wedding in reverse – they had dinner first, followed by the reception then the midnight ceremony came last.
