Winter Festival wasn’t all smiles for comedian Dai Henwood.
Queenstown police have confirmed he was the victim of a brazen nightclub theft during his festival visit.
Henwood’s cellphone, camera, hotel key, ski passes and an unknown sum of money were taken when his jacket was stolen at Subculture between 11.30pm and midnight, constable Sean Drader says.
The jacket was later found in the club’s toilets.
“He’d taken his jacket off and placed it on a sofa next to him in the bar,” Drader says.
Henwood didn’t report the June 30 theft while in town but contacted police on his return to Auckland.
The comic suspects the culprits were men who asked to have their photos taken with him, Drader says.
Police have checked Subculture’s CCTV but “it’s not of a quality to identify people” and no one entered or left during the suspected time period.
It’s Subculture’s first reported jacket theft, Drader adds.
