And with a few snips – actually nine – the newly upgraded Queenstown Memorial Centre is officially open.
Those who helped drive the $3 million project (from left) Alex Derbie, Ella Wilson, Jan Maxwell, Steve Wilde, mayor Vanessa van Uden, Queenstown Memorial Hall Trust chair Cath Gilmour, Sir Eion Edgar, Rachelle Greene and Dave Geddes did the honours last Saturday night.
The ribbon was officially cut during the centre’s official opening bash, showcasing the much-improved performance venue and conference centre.
Gilmour says she and her fellow trustees are rapt to finally have a venue matching the talent of the town.
“Everyone from backstage crew and performers through to the audience seemed positive about the changes.”
Next week the centre hosts a 300-delegate conference group of Australian accountants, reputedly earning the centre a quarter of the revenue it brought in during the entirety of last year.
