Queenstown’s Reggae in the Park’s been canned for this year.
The free music event’s been running ‘‘20-odd years’’ to celebrate Bob Marley’s birthday, which falls on Waitangi Day on February 6.
It’s drawn thousands of people every year to Queenstown Gardens, and last year at St Omer Park, but organiser Tyrone Morehu — DJ Pops — says in a social media message that stringent event requirements such as extra fencing and entry checks have effectively killed this year’s edition.
‘‘We simply can’t financially comply to be in accordance with the government’s guidance on the Covid-19 Protection Framework (traffic light system),’’ Morehu writes.
However, he plans to bring the event back next year.
‘‘Don’t fret, it’s just another hurdle that won’t knock us down.’’
