Newest grand slam buzz

Young players warming up for the Australian Open juniors weren’t the only buzz at Queenstown Tennis Club last week.
This swarm of several thousand bees (above) cleared the Gardens number two court by homing in on a net post last Thursday.
Players and coach Lan Bale kept their distance until “casual beekeeper” Mike Lynch (right) arrived. Lynch, who’s kept bees for 30 years, successfully scraped the queen into a new hive. Her loyal subjects all followed suit by nightfall and Lynch relocated the hive to its new home with a friend at Kelvin Heights.
“Their stomachs are full of honey so they are fairly non-aggressive,” Lynch says.
