All Black star Ma’a Nonu – training in Wanaka yesterday – will introduce his family to Queenstown when fronting for the Highlanders in tomorrow’s pre-season game.
Nonu is bringing wife Andrea and boys Mercury, four, and Michael, one, from Wanaka where his new Super 15 rugby team has been having a family-focused training camp.
The rampaging 76-Test All Black has been a regular visitor to Queenstown. Nonu’s previously visited the Recreation Ground – venue for tomorrow’s hit-out against Nonu’s former team, the Blues – for the National Sevens.
Late last month Nonu joined his new teammates in a bonding session on the Greenstone Track across Lake Wakatipu from Queenstown.
“It was a bit of an eye-opener, the first time I’d been in the bush.”
Nonu says he caught an eel.
Tomorrow’s game starts at 5.30pm. Entry is free for primary school kids and $20 for adults.
