Former Prime Minister and newly knighted Dame Jenny Shipley was in Queenstown last week to launch a
$5 million national campaign to reduce premature deaths from heart disease.
Shipley, chairman of the Cardiovascular Research Fund, is pictured with local campaign team member Sir Eion Edgar (left) and Heart Foundation medical director Norman Sharpe. The country’s first woman PM, from 1997-1999, survived a heart attack in 2000 at age 48 while her dad died at 52 after his fourth attack.
Since the attack Shipley has trimmed 30kg through a healthier lifestyle. Money raised will will fund a chair in preventative heart health in Auckland.
