New cloth maketh the choir

New black and beige robes gave added pizazz to the Central Otago Regional Choir’s Queenstown concert last Friday night.

John Buchanan directed the choir and organist Kemp English also featured.

Seventy-five choral fans turned up to see the choir and guests English, baritone Julien Van Mellaerts and soprano Beth Calverly perform at St Andrew’s Presbyterian Church.

The choir sang Fabulous Fauré – a pot-pourri of tunes penned by French composer Gabriel Fauré and Irishman Charles Villiers Stanford.

“The Faure Requiem was really moving,” choir committee member Sue Patterson says.

“[The choir] had a really good sound. It shows they’ve been together for quite some time.”
