These Queenstown Primary girls will be the envy of every netballer in the Wakatipu.
They’ve won $10,500 worth of prizes – including one-on-one time with the Silver Ferns – for producing one of the longest supermarket dockets in the country.
The Year 5 girls – members of the QPS Green team – collected 504 metres of New World dockets in the Get Sponsored Like The Silver Ferns competition.
Their prize haul includes a training session with a Silver Ferns squad member, a team physio kit, a Silver Ferns-signed netball and personalised Adidas gear for each team member and all-expenses-paid VIP treatment at a Silver Ferns international Test match.
QPS Green is leading the Wakatipu junior grade competition. “It’s so much for the girls to soak in, but what an experience,” coach Sharleen Downing says. “It’s got to boost their morale.”
The girls put in a huge effort to get so many dockets, including asking relatives and friends to help out, she adds.
“It was a big surprise – I didn’t actually think we’d get the docket that long,” says 10-year-old goal shoot Kirsty McCorkindale.
