Queenstown piano and vocal teacher Chaz Barcenilla has dished out major scholarships to two promising students.

He’s pictured, centre, with Queenstowner Lars Fischer, 31, who’s received 12 free singing lessons, and Cromwell-based Mischa Thomlinson, 11, who’s been awarded a year’s worth
of singing and piano lessons, starting next April.

Barcenilla, who has 40 years’ teaching experience, moved from the  United States to Queenstown two years ago.

He still teaches US students, and some in Japan, by Skype.

Earlier this year, he offered free monthly masterclasses here for young pianists and singers, as well as free monthly beginners’ workshops.
