The replacement for More FM Queenstown breakfast host Henry Youngman has big shoes to fill - but has 14 years’ broadcasting experience to call on.
Adam ‘AJ’ Funnell - he’s been ‘AJ’ since he was six – takes over as breakfast co-host and local MediaWorks operations manager this coming Monday.
Funnell, 30, says he’s done every show possible - breakfast, day, afternoon and national nights for More FM many years ago.
Most of his early experience was in Palmerston North and not just behind the microphone.
He’s been executive producer for the city’s no.1 breakfast show and also had two years selling advertising.
He was then approached by MediaWorks’ main competitor, NZME Radio, formerly The Radio Network, to work in Rotorua.
For the past three years he’s broadcast in Christchurch, but is delighted to be moving to Queenstown and returning to Media Works.
“It’s so nice to drive on roads that aren’t bumpy and full of potholes.”
Funnell says the key to his breakfast show, which he’s co-hosting with Janey Newlands, is “it has to be local, entertaining and fun”.
Youngman recently left town to take up a rugby-playing contract in Germany.
