A resource consent’s being publicly notified for a 400-room two-hotel complex on Queenstown’s Brecon Street mini-golf course.
At the same time, the council’s advertising the closure of Cemetery Road to allow developer Graham Wilkinson – who also owns the resort’s St Moritz and Sofitel hotels – to put in a 20-metre buffer between his complex and the cemetery.
In return for spending $1 million-plus on relocating services and new roading, he’s hoping to offset the cost by breaching the 15.5m height limit by up to 6.5m.
Wilkinson believes no one’s affected by the height breach.
He say his hotels, including extensive basement carparking, will be handy for Skyline’s large conference facility as part of its recently-approved redevelopment project.
