Midwives doing house calls

MIDWIVES in the Queenstown-Lakes region are carrying out home visits to reduce the risk of Covid-19 infection.

An alternative location’s also being prepared away from Lakes District Hospital for when home visits aren’t possible.

Southern District Health Board’s head midwife Heather LaDell said the move’s part of a plan to keep people out of hospital, unless they need urgent care during the epidemic.

“We have requested that lead maternity care midwives conduct routine ante-natal visits in the community.’’

Other changes include only allowing one nominated visitor into maternity facilities.

Women are also asked to inform healthcare workers about any international travel or contact with somebody showing Covid-19 symptoms, before their appointment.
