Queenstown’s vintage steamship turns 100 in October next year – and tourism operator Real Journeys wants people to share their memories of her.
To mark the trusty TSS Earnslaw plying Lake Wakatipu for a century, Real Journeys will hold week-long celebrations starting October 18, 2012.
Punters who share stories, snaps and memorabilia of the lady of the lake on the Real Journeys website go into a draw to win a double pass worth $700 that includes sailing on a re-enactment cruise, complete with period costumes.
Launched the same year as the ill-fated Titanic, the iconic tourist attraction was originally used as a transporter for high-country farmers.
“We’re hoping people will remember anything from their first cruise to their favourite TSS Earnslaw anecdote and we’d love to see copies of photos or memorabilia,” Real Journeys international sales boss Tony McQuilkin says.
“With all the interest in the centenary it’s a great opportunity to ensure there’s a comprehensive account of all aspects of this national treasure, not only for this event but for generations to come.”
