A baby memorial in Queenstown’s new Lower Shotover Cemetery will likely be completed by the end of the month.
Sands Charity volunteers Ali Hanrahan and Natasha Murray had hoped to open the memorial by this coming Monday, International Baby Loss Awareness Day.
But there are still some finishing touches needed to the cemetery itself, which is off Lower Shotover Road, near Stalker roundabout.
“We are both very pleased to have this memorial in place now for the many families that suffer the loss of a baby,” Murray says.
“It is a sanctuary to go to, a place to see their baby’s name or to have a date put up to remember and honour their baby.”
A children’s area will also be in the new cemetery at a later stage.
