A former Queenstown Lakes District councillor who favours earlier closing for bars is one of four people on a new local liquor licensing committee.
Arrowtown-based John Mann, who stood down from council at this year’s election after three terms, joins retired District Court Judge Bill Unwin of Nelson and Wanaka, Malika Rose of Queenstown and councillor Lyal Cocks of Wanaka on the district licensing committee.
Local authorities were required to set up the new committees by December 18.
Mann, who runs a catering business but has 38 years history as a licensee, told Mountain Scene in his council exit interview in September he personally favoured 3am closing instead of 4am as it is now.
Unwin will chair the committee.
Mayor Vanessa van Uden says council is very pleased with the calibre of candidates who made themselves available for selection.
