Queenstown Lakes District Council is warning motorists of major delays on the main route between Queenstown and Wanaka this week.
Delays of up to an hour are expected between 10am and 2pm on the Crown Range Road on Tuesday while upgrade work is carried out.
Council project manager Rob Darby says the overall upgrade is scheduled for completion by the end of April.
“The long delays are necessary to allow stabilisation work of the road surface. Anyone planning a journey over the Crown Range during that time should either allow for an extra hour or use State Highway 6 and travel via Cromwell.”
Darby says signage advising of the delays and alternative route will be posted at either end of the Crown Range.
