Reading Cinemas staff say they’re gutted after a gas mask on loan from a museum for its Mad Max display was stolen.
The black mask was taken sometime Sunday afternoon or early evening, from the cinema on The Mall.
It was being worn by a mannequin sitting in a ‘rocket man’ car - on loan from the Wanaka National Transport and Toy Museum.
“I don’t know how we’ll replace it,” cinema manager Rebekah Moore says.
“Staff went out and looked around the town, in rubbish bins, after it was taken but couldn’t find it.
“I’m going to the police to see if anything’s on the CCTV system.”
The car is on display to publicise the post-apocalyptic classic’s reboot, Mad Max: Fury Road.
