The Wakatipu Youth Trust’s been given a much-needed funding boost to grow services aimed at supporting the region’s youth.

The group’s received $2000 from the Remarkables Business Group.

The not-for-profit organisation runs prevention and education initiatives, for people aged between 10 and 24, on a wide variety of topics, including healthy relationships, mental health issues and making good life choices.

Staff also run a drop-in mentoring programme, which is used by 15 to 20 at-risk children each week.

Manager Jacqui Moir says service demand is growing, so more donations are needed.

“We have terrible statistics in our country around youth, and Queenstown is not exempt.

“Youth workers don’t get government funding for their wages, so our wages are based on funding, and funding pots are getting smaller.”
