Otago Regional Council’s making improvements to the Orbus network to help school students.

From today, about 50 Arrowtown School kids will be able to get the bus from outside the school to after-school sports at the Queenstown Events Centre — that change is only in effect on school days and during school terms, and means the 2.55pm bus won’t pick up from Tucker Beach Road and Quail Rise.

For Wakatipu High students, the Jack’s Point service leaving the Frankton hub at  3.25pm will divert via the school, giving students heading to Jack’s Point and Hanley’s Farm an easier trip home.

ORC transport manager Doug Rodgers says they’re happy to be able to help the schools out, while Arrowtown School parent Kris Jarvis says it takes pressure off the parents, takes cars off the roads, and will ‘‘minimise chaos outside the school gate’’.
