Top New Zealand musos and their tattoos have been snapped by a Queenstown photographer for a calendar and CD.
Jackie Gay is holding an exhibition launch of her 2011 calendar Ink of Aotearoa at Subculture on October 15 from 8pm – it captures Kiwi performers showing off their body art.
Popular musicians featured include Holly Smith, King Kapisi plus MC Antsman from Rhombus and Cornerstone Roots. Most were photographed while in the resort for gigs.
“Musicians as artists express themselves through their music. The musicians I’ve photographed for this series also choose to express
themselves through ink on their bodies.
“And that art work is the expression of the tattoo artists,” Gay says.
“It’s been my vision to showcase the inspirational, creative body art in celebration of the connection of ink and music in Aotearoa.”
Each artist contributed a track to the CD, which Gay describes “easy listening New Zealand dub roots”.
The calendar and music combo cost $34.99 and will go on sale at the launch.
