Queenstown’s council looks to be on the move.
A report for last Friday’s meeting sketchily mentions the preparation of a “request for proposal for the provision of council offices for rental in Queenstown”.
Mayor Vanessa van Uden (above) says the request isn’t quite ready for release so it’s unknown whether all council staff will move or just some of them.
The council outgrew its Gorge Road HQ several years ago and overflow space is already being rented.
The previous administration prepared grandiose plans to build a rugby field-size office block costing many millions but this was scotched.
The report revealing the likely move concerned future library space “in the event the council office relocated in entirety”, community services manager Paul Wilson outlines.
Wilson floats two options – a larger Queenstown library or an additional library for Frankton while maintaining Queenstown’s at its current size.
Arrowtown’s library would be unaffected in either case.
