Queenstown’s losing its post office.
Loss-making NZ Post is shutting its Camp Street premises from January 28 and relocating its postal services, as it’s doing elsewhere in the country.
Postal services will be offered instead from the nearby post box lobby, Monday-Friday 8am-4pm; the CBD’s two Night ‘n Day stores, Monday-Sunday 8am-6pm; and from Frankton’s Summerfield’s Pharmacy, Monday-Friday 9am-6pm and Saturday 9am-2pm.
Bill-paying services will only be available from Summerfield’s Pharmacy.
Kiwibank, which has shared premises with NZ Post, relocates to standalone new premises at Frankton’s Five Mile shopping centre, also from January 28.
Long-time local Kirsty Sharpe says NZ Post’s closure is “a sign of the times but it’s disappointing”.
“Whenever you go in there, you see an awful lot of overseas people wanting to post stuff back home.
“It’s going to be disruptive for them, more so than the locals, I think.”
However, Sharpe says one positive is that under the new arrangement there’ll be weekend postal services – NZ Post currently only opens Monday to Friday.
