Five Queenstown youngsters competed well against Southland students in a speech and drama competition in Invercargill recently.

Queenstown parent Kate Moetaua, who teaches the local students along with Lisa Moore, says: “I think, talent-wise, we’re absolutely on a par.”

Kate’s daughter Anika and Talia Hughes won ‘highest aggregate’ trophies for their under 8 years and 8 years age groups, respectively.

Sophie Lake took first place in the 13 year age group for her character solo rendition of Mary Warren from Arthur Miller’s play, The Crucible. Meanwhile Will Hughes took second in the poem section for under-eights whilst Tasman Hughes was third for the poem and very highly recommended in the character solo for nine year olds.
