The submission tide’s running three to one towards a second jetboat operator being allowed on Queenstown’s Kawarau River.
Thunder Jet ran for only three months on the Kawarau last summer before a High Court judge found existing operator Kawarau Jet should have been consulted when its rival was granted a resource consent.
Thunder Jet, under operator Queenstown Water Taxis, has since applied for a notified consent to again run one boat for a maximum four trips a day as far as the Kawarau/Arrow River confluence.
On the same date, Queenstown Water Taxis also applied to run three boats daily on demand on a similar stretch of water.
The two applications attracted 24 supporting submissions, eight and seven, respectively, in opposition, and two neither for nor against, from the Kawarau Falls Station resort developer and Fish & Game NZ.
