A Queenstown Hill mansion bought at a fire-sale price is on the block for a head-spinning $6.25 million – plus furniture.
Back in 2009, original owner Glen Carless – who also built and designed the six-bedroom, eight bathroom house at The Peak gated estate – flicked it for $3.75m to an Aussie buyer, after apparently rejecting a $6.5m offer from the same person.
A cash-strapped Carless had previously tried to sell it for $7m-plus but claimed 10 deals fell over.
New Zealand Sotheby’s International realtor Mark Harris says the new owner has “fully remodelled” the 950sq m home, named Ekara House.
“It was designed as a boutique hotel – the idea was to soften it and make it more homely.”
Rated one of the world’s best houses by Australia’s Better Homes & Gardens TV show in 2006, “it’s one of the only properties that has views up both arms of the lake”, Harris says.
The asking price is below the $6.7m it’s been valued at, he adds.
