MAYBE luxury winter holidays in Fiji aren’t as cruisy as they’re cracked up to be. Local developer John Martin had to be rescued from a lethal jellyfish bite while snorkelling there recently. Ironically one of his rescuers, fellow Queenstown developer John Darby, had a potentially fatal encounter with a stingray previously in Fiji.
QUEENSTOWN features in a stunning 18-page fashion spread in the latest issue of Indian lifestyle magazine, L’Officiel. The model, who also poses on the cover, is Bollywood star Sonam Kapoor, who was here in January shooting a movie called I Hate Luv Stories. Settings include Cecil Peak, Lake Alta, Arrow River, Skyline’s Kiwi Haka theatre, Ben Lomond lavender farm and Lady of the Lake the Earnslaw.

TWO key staff at The Hills private golf course, near Arrowtown, are attending the US Open starting tonight at Pebble Beach thanks to the generosity of Hills owners, mega-jeweller Michael Hill and his wife Christine, who were originally going to go but no longer can. “I couldn’t believe it when they told me,” club pro Craig Palmer says. He’s accompanied by head superintendent Ian Douglas. The pair also plan visiting several other Californian golf courses including the high-ranked Cypress Point.
