Dean Stuart wants his self-confessed “dangerous” new Queenstown rail jam to become an annual winter fixture.
The inaugural event last Saturday at Reavers Lodge on Hamilton Road resulted in broken bones and snowboards – just as 21-year-old organiser Stuart expected.
“It’s so extreme, riders damage all their gear doing it. So it’s a real good winter wrap-up.”
St John ambulance service – the event’s fundraising recipient – has given Stuart its blessing, an irony not lost
on the sole woman entrant Christy Prior.
“I was scared s…tless,” the accomplished 20-year-old snowboarder writes on www.undergroundskate.co.nz.
“And it was a fundraiser for St John ambulance! Ironic if you ask me.”
