Queenstown abstract artist Sandra McElrea has organised an art sale this weekend to fund an education project for Indian children.

McElrea visited the country in January and was struck by the plight of kids in the slums.

“I went to Delhi, Calcutta, Chennai, Mumbai and Bangalore and just fell in love with the kids in the slums. They have no education and nothing to learn with.

“So I’ve made 23 little blackboard sets with material they can teach themselves and hope to make about 100.

McElrea will return to India in November. More than 20 of her paintings will be for sale, at discounted prices, this Sunday from 11am-4pm at St Peter’s Church Hall, Church Street.
