Cancer-stricken Queenstown community stalwart Glenn ‘Scooter’ Reid is overwhelmed at the generosity of a South Canterbury farming couple.
Joan and Ray Scott have offered Reid a holiday in their managed apartment in Kaikoura – and either petrol vouchers so he can drive there or a free flight to Christchurch and an onward bus trip.
The Scotts’ gesture arose after they read about Reid’s battle with life-threatening cancer in Mountain Scene last month.
“With all the tireless help he’s given to Queenstown, we’d like to offer him a holiday in Kaikoura,” they say.
Their Kaikoura unit has two bedrooms so they’ve told Reid he can also take his parents or someone else.
“That’s awesome,” Reid says. “I really appreciate that.”
Right now, he can’t say when he’ll take up the Scotts’ offer.
Reid – who turns 40 next month – has been a tireless volunteer who’s racked up two community awards.
A former president and life member of Showbiz Queenstown, he’s also a stalwart of the Wakatipu Rugby Club and on the organising committee for the resort’s annual National Sevens rugby tournament.
