Queenstown Ice Arena’s got into the Christmas spirit by organising its first food and gift drive for nearby community support centre, Happiness House.

Local businesses have also come to the party by donating umpteen prizes to lucky donors.

Pictured at the ice rink, which has been decked out in Christmas cheer, are, from left, team member Scott Violot, GM Kellye Nelson and team members Adam Francis and Colin McIntosh.

People are invited to donate canned food or non-perishable food items, gifts or $5 cash any day between now and Christmas Eve — apart from Tuesdays, the rink’s open at least
between 11.30am and 7pm (and from 9.30am-5.15pm from December 22-24).

Donors go into a draw to win more than $1800 worth of prizes from, so far, about 20 businesses.

Francis says it made sense to choose Happiness House as it’s also on Park Street — ‘‘I walk
past it every day, I always see them giving out free stuff’’.

Nelson says she’d also like people to support the businesses who’ve donated prizes despite doing it tough them selves.
