How smart they are at Housemart

Queenstown and Wanaka property manager Housemart has scooped up glittering prizes at this month’s 2012 Property Management Awards.

At the gala industry night in Hamilton on August 18, Housemart took out the top national award for Property Management Agency of the Year.

That’s not all – Housemart property manager Katrina Roberts was also named Residential Property Manager of the Year, colleague Colleen Topping was runner-up in the same category, and Housemart Wanaka staffer Andrea Bono picked up Residential Support Staff Person of the Year.

Housemart director Hayley Stevenson is over the moon.

“It’s absolutely huge for Housemart to have won these awards,” Hayley says.

“It was a fantastic surprise after our staff successes throughout the night to then be announced the overall agency winner – we were stunned.

“For a company that’s relatively young and new, this is incredible,” a delighted Hayley exclaims.

The annual awards are a big deal within the residential property management sector, being run by the Real Estate Institute of New Zealand (REINZ) to recognise excellence from agencies and individuals.

Stevenson says this year’s awards were focused on consistency of excellence – and that suited Housemart.

“We have systems that are so well established and structures that are so well documented and followed through that we deliver consistent, reliable and excellent service time after time.

“We don’t do hit and miss,” Hayley says.

Housemart’s winning entry emphasised three key features: 171 per cent growth in the number of properties under management, consistent accuracy in reporting and documentation and a zero-tolerance on rent arrears.

Although just two years old, Queenstown’s Housemart has twice been a national finalist in the Agency of the Year awards.

“It’s good to finally be the bride and not the bridesmaid,” Stevenson says, explaining her award-winning agency was up against big corporate property management firms.

“Victory is so sweet because they didn’t see us coming,” she chuckles.

Stevenson’s no stranger to top honours, having won Property Manager of the Year in 2006 and 2008.

An associate member of the REINZ, Hayley is a property management veteran of 21 years.
