Crowne Plaza employees didn’t mind getting their hands dirty for a good cause at Kiwi Birdlife Park this week.
Hotel staffers spent a few hours away from their desks on Tuesday getting an enclosure ready for predator-proofing before it becomes home to native Buff weka birds next month.
The work forms part of Crowne Plaza’s regular volunteer work through its “responsible business goals”, hotel human resources manager Helen Shannon says.
“We love supporting Kiwi Birdlife Park because we get out into the environment.”
Crowne Plaza finance boss Andrew Meier jokes: “It keeps us lazy office monkeys active.”
Park wildlife manager Nicole Kunzmann says a young weka pair should be ready to move into the enclosure in March, in the hope they will produce offspring.
“We really want to name a weka one day,” Shannon says.
