Holidaying at troubled developer Dave Henderson’s Gibbston compound this week, Local Government Minister Rodney Hide confirms one topic is off-limits.
That’s the Auditor-General’s investigation into Christchurch City Council buying five city properties from Henderson last year.
Though the Henderson company developing Queenstown’s Five Mile township is in receivership, Hide – who turned the first sod there in 2006 – hopes his mate can complete it.
“I just think it would be a fantastic development.”
As new Local Government Minister, Hide says while walking along Lake Hayes this week he was collared by people over problems with the Resource Management Act.
He declares his main aim in the portfolio is to introduce greater transparency and accountability in local government.
