The Central Otago wine harvest will be celebrated at a new event in Gibbston this month.
Kinross Winery will host the first annual Kinross Harvest Celebration from this Friday to 16.
Kinross GM Christine Erkkila says it’ll include a range of events aimed at celebrating the region’s winegrowers and viticulturalists and will pay homage to Gibbston’s world-class wine industry.
Events include a ‘‘battle of the world’s best pinot noirs’’, a five-course wine-matched dinner, a blind tasting, vineyard walk and a 5km ‘‘vineyard dog dash’’ to recognise the important role dogs play in the lives of those who work in the wine industry.
The celebration is the culmination of a year’s hard work bringing everyone in the wine industry together to pick the vintage’s fruit and reflect on a year that was ‘‘far from average’’, Erkkila says.
And it gives locals the chance to get an insider’s view into the annual harvest.
‘‘The Harvest Celebration is a wonderful chance for us to take a moment to applaud the incredible standard of wine our region produces, and the considerable contribution our industry makes to the area.
‘‘[It] aims to showcase some of the best of what Gibbston has to offer.
‘‘It has something for everyone to enjoy, whether you’re an avid collector or an amateur wine enthusiast.’’
