Groin grope and flee

Queenstown police are looking for a male who allegedly indecently assaulted a 56-year-old local woman in front of her partner.

The couple were outside the entrance to O’Connells Mall on Beach St at 11.45pm last Thursday when a man ran past and “grabbed and squeezed her in the groin area”, constable Sean Drader says.

“He continued running down the SkyCity Casino foyer and then passed through on to Cow Lane.”

The male is Caucasian, in his early 20s, slim to medium build and had been wearing a burgundy puffer jacket.

Trouble compacted

A port-a-loo and trench compactor were damaged after someone broke into a building site and turned on the machine overnight last Thursday.

“We get a lot of that happening in the centre of town,” Drader says. “Contractors will go home and leave barricades around their works but what they don’t realise is that a whole cavalcade of people come out and think things are for playing with,” he says.

The contractor is boosting security.

Completely sozzled

Police escorted a couple home after a night of boozing proved too much for the male partner. He was found lying on Rees St at 5am last Saturday with his girlfriend unable to lift him because “he was smashed out of his tree,” Drader says

A male wearing just his jocks was found “lost and confused” and came to Rydges hotel wondering where he was meant to be. He was returned to his room at 4.55am last Sunday, Drader says.

More drug busts

Police have arrested an 18-year-old on cannabis charges after a search warrant was executed at a Frankton address last Tuesday.

Fifty snap-lock bags of cannabis and two plastic bags of tinnies were found in the house along with $2000 cash. Police also found two A4-size plastic bags buried outside containing cannabis heads, Drader says.

A 24-year-old local male was warned for possession of a cannabis pipe and his 27-year-old male friend was warned for carrying a small amount of cannabis. The two men were caught by the lake in Queenstown Gardens at 3.35pm last Tuesday.

A 27-year-old Queenstown man was warned after a minor amount of old dried cannabis was found in his possession after a search warrant was executed at 7am last Wednesday. Dog Control are also involved as a dog found at the property was described by police as “vicious”, Drader says.

“The person whose house we were searching told police not to worry about the animal – it then proceeded to bite his arm while he was trying to control it.”
