A long-time Queenstowner’s gone out on her own, hoping to help businesses and migrants facing uncertain futures.

Kate Batkin, who’s been in HR more than a decade, the past seven years of which she’s been NZSki’s HR manager, has launched Batkin Consulting, providing HR consulting and immigration advice to help small-to-medium businesses, particularly in light of the pending labour shortage.

The licensed immigration adviser says she’s looking forward to helping businesses with their people processes and guiding individuals through immigration pathways.

At NZSki she helped support more than 300 employer visas each season.

‘‘Queenstown is facing a bit of a workforce crisis at the moment and I want to do my part to help local businesses and our international residents.’’

Her new venture offers HR services like auditing existing systems and processes, supporting development of ‘‘people strategies’’, change management, restructures, investigations and disciplinary advice.

She’s also providing an option for smaller businesses, without in-house HR, to contract her for several hours a month.
