Forty-five Queenstown Rotarians, including Derek Bulman (left) and Bruce Boivin, raised an impressive $10,500 for victims of the January 12 Haiti earthquake during shifts outside the New World supermarket last weekend.

The contribution, for ShelterBoxes containing tents and other essential supplies, outstripped any other Rotary club in New Zealand, president Trevor Tattersfield says.

“We were blown away by the support from Queenstown people,” he adds.

Tom Henderson, English founder of ShelterBox – a Rotary International initiative – has written to thank the Queenstown club.

The Caribbean country’s death toll is thought to have reached 200,000 with another 1.5 million people rendered homeless.
