Give mountain bikers a gondola ride up poll

Opening up Queenstown’s gondola to mountain bikers – due to start in the new year – is a no-brainer, according to a scene.co.nz poll.

In response to the question: ‘Should Skyline open its gondola to access by mountain bikers?’, a whopping 94 per cent – 47 votes – answered ‘yes’.

Three votes or six per cent didn’t want the Bob’s Peak cableway opened up for mountain bikers, according to the poll.

Skyline Enterprises is dishing out hundreds of thousands to make gondola cabins bike compatible and plans to open it to riders for a trial period from January to April next year.

Kiwi riding star Justin Leov is among punters who can’t wait to catch a lift to the top – and the trails in the Ben Lomond Reserve – rather than sweating it out on the gruelling climb.
