Organisers of a classic rock concert at Queenstown’s Gibbston Vallery Winery are crowing over its success.
About 14,000 attended yesterday’s (Saturday) concert headlined by the legendary bands Lynyrd Skynyrd, Starship featuring Mickey Thomas and 10cc.
“The weather in Queenstown was perfect, the bands and crowd were fantastic and we are really happy with the outcome,” Greenstone Entertainment’s Amanda Calvert says.
“We’d like to thank everyone who helped make Summer Concert Tour in Taupo, Matakana and Queenstown possible including our amazing artists, the local communities for their continued support and the thousands of fans for creating such a wonderful atmosphere.”
Conditions were overcast at Gibbston but dry apart from about five minutes of drizzle.
The bands had the crowd rocking with their standards – including 10cc’s The Things We Do For Love, Art for Art’s Sake and I Don’t Like Cricket, Starship’s Sara, Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now and the anthemic We Built This City and Lynyrd Skynyrd’s Sweet Home Alabama and Free Bird.
The audience spanned all age groups though with a preponderance of baby boomers – along with an 80-year-old celebrating her birthday.
