Wakatipu residents can get better prepared for emergencies via a new nationwide mapping system.

Terralink International, which provides physical address and location data to emergency services, has
launched a new website allowing Kiwis to check and clarify directions so emergency services can find them quick-smart.

New Zealand Fire Service, ambulance and police all rely on Terralink system to respond to 111 calls – but location data is often confusing.

One conundrum is alter­native names for roads, a Terralink spokeswoman says. “For example in Queenstown, Ballarat Street is also known as The Mall.”

The site www.myaddress.co.nz allows users to see location details currently held, and its physical location on a high resolution aerial image.

Residents can confirm or correct addresses, plus add specific local information like unofficial aliases for buildings, places or streets.

“If all the rural areas in Queenstown registered their rapid rural number on the database,” says Terralink, “this would give the database another layer of detail not present currently and assist dispatchers without local insight.”
