Queenstown Winter Festival organisers are calling for keen Birdman competitors to start working on their zany entries.
The iconic festival event, in which brave punters build a costume and contraption to dive into freezing Lake Wakatipu, will be held as usual at Earnslaw Park on June 23 this year, the first Sunday of festival. Prizes are given to the best corporate and individual entries.
“The Birdman competition is a festival favourite and it’s one of my favourites, too,” director Lisa Buckingham says.
“It’s fun, it’s funny and good for all the family. All eyes are on Queenstown for this, so we want the entries this year to be the most creative we have seen yet.”
