Fresh spring snow coats Queenstown slopes

Fresh spring snow has coated Queenstown ski fields overnight.

The Remarkables is reporting a dump of between 5cm to 10cm last night (Monday) with snow continuing to fall today (Tuesday).

Remarkables ski area manager Ross Lawrence says the fresh snow and further forecast fall has set the slopes up with some sensational conditions.

“Skiers and boarders are just loving the new snow conditions today with fresh powder all over the mountain, including the chutes and Highway,” he says.

“Once this front passes and the visibility clears a bit the riding will be absolutely sensational.”

People heading to the mountain tomorrow (Wednesday) can go to Shadow Basin and watch The North Face Freeski Open Big Mountain qualifiers where some of the top-ranked big mountain skiers in New Zealand and the world are competing. The event is a three-star qualifying event for the Freeride World Tour, earning top finishers valuable points and cash prizes.

The Burton Snowbroads camp is on Saturday and the Gathering at The Stash is on Sunday.
