The snow drought’s been broken – with Treble Cone near Wanaka getting a fresh top earlier this week.
The ski field, about a 35-minute lakefront drive from Wanaka, had about 15cm of fresh snow on Wednesday across its Saddle Basin and upper half of Home Basin.
Treble Cone marketing boss Nick Noble says the Saddle Basin snow base is more than 2.5 metres deep which is a fantastic way to start August, and the groomed trail skiing and snowboarding has been great over the past week.
Queenstown’s Coronet Peak still has an upper mountain base of 80cm despite it’s last snowfall of 2cm being on July 15. Meanwhile, The Remarkables ski field in Queenstown has an upper base of more than a metre and a lower base of 55cm with its most recent snowfall on Tuesday.
