The new Wakatipu High School Foundation has helped to fund three new staff positions.
The foundation, set up last October, has provided $65,000 to enable the school to appoint a full-time sports coordinator, Hayley Ward, part-time arts coordinator, Emma Tyler, and an E-Learning coordinator, Peggy Fitzgerald.
The foundation’s vision is to provide funding “for the advancement of education by charitable means”, including support for education, learning, cultural and sporting activities.
Some funding will be allocated to the school’s immediate needs and some towards an endowment fund.
School principal Steve Hall says having a full-time sports coordinator will allow the school to deliver a more structured programme.
The arts role will allow the school, to deliver more opportunities around music, the arts, performing arts and drama.
“Our ultimate goal is to have all students involved in some form of sports and arts which fits with our strategic goals of what the community wants and what the kids are interested in.”
E-Learning is “massive” in education and part of the way of the future, Hall adds.
