A blip at the petrol pumps may have caused a blaze at a Queenstown car dealership yesterday.
Frankton fireys were called to GWD Motors in Lucas Place shortly after noon, where a Toyota Highlander was on fire on the forecourt.
Dealership boss Tim Duggan says it was a rental car – brought in for repairs with the wrong fuel.
“We have gone to work on the car and it has ignited. We’re not 100 per cent sure how, but that is all that has happened.”
Frankton’s senior fire officer Mike Ide says the engine compartment and front was “fully involved” when crews arrived.
Duggan gives the fire crew kudos and says the blaze was out in about 10 minutes.
“The car was pretty toasted though.”
